DTSTAMP:20200506T141456Z
URL:https://www.mowogo.org/mowogo-activities/mowogo-activities/dp-mowogo-calendar/day-of-witahemui
DESCRIPTION:Day of “Witahemui”\NAs there will not be a Pre-Camp Fellowship, Mowogo Lodge will host a Day of “Witahemui” (Delaware for “Service”) at Rainey Mountain on May 16th to continue our storied and much envied dedication of service to our council properties.  This opportunity to serve will be open only to participants that are between 18 years old to 65 years old.  Since we are limiting our youth from participating this will not be an official lodge event.  Rather, we will host this opportunity to serve for our members and for non-members that meet the age requirements for participation.  If you know of someone that is not a member of our lodge but you think they might benefit from seeing how you express your dedication to our shared value of service, please feel free to invite them to participate with you.  It could be a great opportunity to showcase Mowogo Lodge.  As we have been asked by many to consider all of the possibilities to serve and protect all who participate, we believe that this approach will be the best way we can do that.  \NThis Day of Witahemui will be organized and conducted by our lodge leadership.  Our Lodge Chief, Ryan Strozensky, and our Service Chair serving in third and final year in this role, Devin Saunders, have been given a Work Project list from our Brother and Camp Ranger at Rainey Mountain, Alex Foster, and our Associate Lodge Adviser, Ed Brown, PhD.  This team is working on making sure that materials and tools necessary to complete each project will be ready and communicated to each work crew to maintain efficiency and organization.\NOur Chapter Leadership will coordinate and organize work crews.  This is an essential step in this process as we are utilizing our existing organizational structure to make this initiative successful.  Devin and Ryan will begin contacting our Chapter Chiefs to work with Chapter Advisers and Chapter Members to organize work crews and make work project choices.  This process will begin immediately so that details and arrangements can be made to reduce unproductive time.  Each work crew needs to be limited to ten (10) members only to stay in line with safety protocols.\NIt is important to express to everyone that this is not a fellowship.  That will be hard for us as Scouts, Scouters, and especially as Arrowmen.  We are cheerful and social by nature.  But we must follow proper protocols to do everything we can to protect you and all who participate.  There will be a pre-check as participants arrive that will include a temperature check and a nine point questionnaire for everyone to answer.  A Medical form will not be necessary.  During this pre-check and during the day, we ask that you follow Social Distancing protocols and refrain from shaking hands.\NYour Chapter Leadership has been informed about this initiative.  Working with your Chapter leadership is a critical component in making this opportunity work.  Devin and Ryan will work through them to make assignments and communicate tools needed.  So, your efforts working with them will help us maintain efficiency as well as reduce confusion and potential frustration.  Their lodge-related email addresses are on our website.\NAs a way of saying thank you, a sack lunch and covered supper will be provided for you.  This is one reason why it is important for you to coordinate through your Chapter Leadership so that they can pass along accurate crew members counts so we can prepare accordingly.  These meals will be brought to you.  We will not meet nor gather in the Dining Hall or anywhere else to maintain Social Distancing protocols.\NThis is not in any way a preferable alternative to holding our annual Pre-Camp Fellowship.  If you are under 18 or over 65, there is no way to replace this experience for you.  And we know that you will be there in spirit and we are grateful for that.

DESCRIPTION:Mowogo Lodge Elangomat Training\NOne of the most important pieces of our Ordeal weekends are the Elangomats. This is such a necessary role that has the potential to make or break the experience of the candidates.\NThe role of the Elangomat is simple - be a friend to the candidates. You serve with them throughout the day, staying silent, and eating little. It is an opportunity for you as an Arrowman to lead by example and demonstrate the cheerful service of our brotherhood.\NIf you are interested in serving at one (or both) of our Ordeal weekends this year, and either have not been previously trained or would like to be eligible for Wolf Clan this year, please register attend one of the training dates and locations listed below.\NAll of the training dates below will begin at 9:00am and end at 1:30pm. There is no cost for the training, but you will need to bring your own lunch. There will be a training portion, followed by lunch, and then everyone will be doing some service to finish getting trained. Please also bring a water bottle, work gloves, work clothes, a notebook and pen, and a rain jacket.\N\NJanuary 20th (Scoutland)\NFebruary 3rd (Woodruff @ Machque Brotherhood Day, must also be registered for that event)\NFebruary 17th (Scoutland, Admin Building)\NMarch 9th (Scoutland, Craft Shack)\N\NRegistration for each event will close at the end of day on the Thursday prior to the event. If no one has registered by that time, that event will be canceled and an email notification sent out announcing the cancellation.\NChapters have a requirement to have 2 trained Elangomats for every 10 candidates who attend an ordeal weekend. The more people you have trained, the easier you will be able to make this.

It is an opportunity for you as an Arrowman to lead by example and demonstrate the cheerful service of our brotherhood.\NIf you are interested in serving at the Fall Fellowship event or one of our Ordeal weekends next year, and either have not been previously trained or would like to be eligible for Wolf Clan this year, please register to attend training.\NWe will be holding a fall elangomat training session on November 9th at the ScoutLand pioneering shelter. The training session will begin at 9:30am and end at 12:30pm. There is no cost for the training, but you will need to bring your own lunch. There will be a training portion, followed by lunch, and then everyone will be doing some service to finish getting trained. Please also bring a water bottle, work gloves, work clothes, a notebook and pen, and a rain jacket.\NRegister Here\NRegistration for will close at the end of day on the Thursday, Nov 7. If no one has registered by that time, the event will be canceled and an email notification sent out announcing the cancellation.\NChapters have a requirement to have 2 trained Elangomats for every 10 candidates who attend an ordeal weekend. The more people you have trained, the easier you will be able to make this.

DESCRIPTION:Elangomat Training\NOne of the most important pieces of our Ordeal weekends are the Elangomats. This is such a necessary role that has the potential to make or break the experience of the candidates.\NThe Elangomat Training is designed to prepare Arrowmen to serve as effective mentors and guides for new members during their Ordeal experience. As an Elangomat, you play a critical role in welcoming candidates, modeling cheerful service, and helping them understand the spirit and purpose of the Order of the Arrow. This training will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead your clan.\NIf you are interested in serving at the Spring Fellowship event or one of our Ordeal weekends next year, and either have not been previously trained or would like to be eligible for Wolf Clan this year, please register to attend training.\NWe will be holding a Spring Elangomat training session on March 7th at Camp Rainey Mountain. The training session will begin at 10:00 am in the Mowogo shelter and end at 2:00 pm. There is no cost for the training and it will consist of a training portion followed by a service project.\NParticipants should bring a complete work uniform (Class B) appropriate for outdoor service projects. Please also bring a notebook, pen, water bottle, and any required health forms. Dress for the weather, as portions of the training may take place outdoors. Closed-toe shoes are required for all activities. Bring your own lunch, as we will not be providing food.\NRegistration will close at the end of day on Friday, March 6th. If no one has registered by that time, the event will be canceled and an email notification sent out announcing the cancellation.\NChapters have a requirement to have 2 trained Elangomats for every 10 candidates who attend an ordeal weekend. The more people you have trained, the easier you will be able to make this.
